Show Alpha The Money Skip! It has been over a month since my last post on Former General President Herman “Skip” Mason of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. Since breaking the news that he was removed as president the attack of my character and creditability has been under of great fire. Countless negative comments have been posted to my blog, on Facebook, and Twitter, but not once have they caused me to regret one word of what I have reported on Skip or Alpha and before I take it back I will add more to it, which brings me to the post of my most recent findings.
It brought me great pleasure to attendMorehouseCollege’s Commencement Exercises this past May and face a great number of Alpha men face to face. However, a number of the great members of the Black and Gold came up to me one on one to say “I read your blog and it is all true.’ It seems that the organization, which is private, has chosen to take the position to not address the matter directly except only to report the newly named president. The Alpha website notes the following: On April 27, 2012, “For internal and administrative reason the board of directors has chosen to turn over the administrative duties of the office of the general president to Acting General President Aaron Crutison, Sr. Crutison is the West Regional President. According to my good Alpha snitches Skip has only been suspended for 60 days as president due to his having stole money from the fraternity.
The exact amount has yet to be determined, but it seems to be at least six figures that Skip admitted to having stolen at a Southeast Regional Conference. The determination was made by the board of directors to suspend and remove Skip due to actions in the past that has been taken against regional presidents. The fraternity feared possible lawsuits from past Regional Presidents for similar infractions. This matter has been discussed with Bryon Joseph Anthony Kelly, the director of public relations for Alpha on several occasions. Mr. Kelly was extremely evasive and at some points very defensive when asked about the matter and if any public statement would be made by the organization about the issues with Skip Mason. Each time he directed attention to the official website and stated that everything that would or needed to be addressed could be found on the site.
Since my last post Mr. Henry Goodgame contacted me via Facebook to remind me that he had never spoken to me directly about anything regarding Alpha, which is true. However, much to his surprise Mr. Obnoxious was on the line while he discussed the challenges of the fraternity with a fellow member and a good Obnoxious snitch! It was during that conversation Henry Goodgame quickly corrected the Alpha brother to no longer refer to Skip as Brother Mason, but Mr. Mason. He went on to share with him that Skip had been in fact removed as general president pending and investigation. A trial of Skip Mason is set for the next regional conference to determine what actions would be taken if any would be taken at all. Read the Facebook Message exchange with me and Henry Goodgame below.

Mr. McCray, why are writing me on this matter. I am quite surprised to receive a FB message. Fratenity business is private and just as it was when you were a student, does not require public discourse. I urge you to retract your previous statements and refrain from making any reference to me in any future blog, ever. The College community tolerates your behavior, but the rest of the intelligent community should not. I am saddened and disturbed that you ever would write something so blatantly false simply to attract more readers. I strongly urge you to retract your blog report and issue a public apology whic reflects the fact that we have never discussed this or any subject about anyone and never will. That is simply not the way I handle business. The founders of the College would be ashamed of your lack of honesty and integrity. We have never spoken about this matter and never will. My Fraternity commands more respect than that. First and last reply.

I was on the phone when you talked to a member of your fraternity. I do not care now nor have I ever what you think of me. Your people cotacted me and I was on the phone when you discussed it with someone.
If you like I can prove the conversation did happen.
Addtionally, I will mention you and the names of anyone as I see fit. The blog only shares what I have heard. It would be best for you all to release a public statement.

I have no idea what you are referring to. You should cease and desist. For many reasons, I find it inappropriate to discuss. Alpha is a private entity and as such, a public statement of a private matter is not warranted.

Sure, but I do sir. All is well. However, it awful what you all decided to do to Skip. It seems to me there would have been so many other ways to deal with this matter for it to have remained private.
Additionally, if you all are a non-profit then we should call to see your books to know what is really going on with the funds.

Not appropriate, necessary or legal. This is a private matter. Respectfully, stay out of Fraternity affairs. Thank you retracing the earlier statements.

Hopefully you all can resolve it. It seems that he could have served the rest of his term to have kept this in you all’s brotherhood.

At first hearing of these very serious allegations against Skip Mason a call was made to Harry Johnson, who confirmed it was some very serious issues going on with Skip Mason. Johnson informed me that he was not clear on all of the details, but Skip had admitted to misappropriation of funds. Harry Johnson is a Past General President of Alpha Phi Alpha.
Due my determination to get to the bottom of the issue and because none of the members on the Obnoxious Street Committee would provide the e-mail sent to officers to share with members of the fraternity board of directors were contacted. Countless calls were made to a number of these gentleman to have gone unreturned which left me with no other resort than to visit the Greater Piney Grove Missionary Baptist Church inAtlanta,Georgia. On the evening of Bible Study Rev. Dr. William Flippin had just left five minutes prior to my arrival, but good insiders provided Mr. Obnoxious with a cell number to reach him and one to reach his wife; A great deal of calls were made, but he finally returned my call and discussed the issue of his dear friend Skip Mason at length.
Dr. Flippin and I talked while he was getting prepared to travel to Alcorn to speak, the National Chaplain of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity shared that it was in fact true that Herman “Skip” Mason had been suspended as General President of Alpha due to having admitted to taking fraternity money. According to Flippin, who is very good friends and was appointed as chaplain by Skip, stated that his dear friend was doing as well as could be expected due to the great deal of embarrassment. He shared that Skip has a number of men that never cared for him from the beginning and they seemed to have always had they guns drawn, but unfortunately Skip gave them the proof they needed to take him down.
“Skip is a good man and a Man of God,” explained Dr. Flippin. “He was not going to lie when they came to him with the allegations.”
Flippin went on to share that Skip never thought they would have taken this level of action against him, but a number of hater insisted he be removed do to the past regional presidents that had done similar things and the fear of lawsuits forced their had to remove him. During the hour or so conversation with the good friend of the removed and suspended president of Alpha said that due to the tough times with the economy his good friend felt his back was against the wall to make ends meet and that he was only intending to borrow the money and would eventually replace it, but it was discovered before he had and opportunity.
It is true that he used his expense credit card to pay his children’s tuition, Flippin confirmed. “It is my understanding he was in a tight that month and needed more time to get the bill paid.
According to Flippin the wife of his buddy, Hermal Cody Mason is not doing well with her real estate business as she had in the past due to houses not selling and her being in school. He said that Skip handled the situation like a gentleman and made arrangements to pay Alpha every dime of the money back, but the word got out before he had a chance. He said that it was mainly embarrassing more than anything due to Skip having completed all of the official activities with the president elect taking office in January. Skip was president during the unveiling of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Dedication and that is what mattered to him most. Flippin says it has yet to be determined if the organization would take any legal action against Skip Mason.
An Obnoxious Street Committee Member’s husband is a good Alpha man and he has been sharing the up to date details with his wife during good old fashion pillow talk. The Alpha man happens to be an attorney and the matter has been brought to his attention. It seems that it might be a very strong possibility that Alpha will take legal action against Skip if he is not able to pay this big bill back in a timely fashion. A number of the men that is said to hate Skip are ready to haul him into court to bring him up on charges for this great infraction. It is almost funny to think that the fraternity would allow Skip to get away with taking the money rather than dealing with a public scandal.
