Obnoxious Media regrets to inform you Rosetta Boyce Kyles, mother of St. Louis’ own King of Comedy Cedric The Entertainer, passed away this morning (June 1, 2015) after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Born and raised in southern Missouri, Ms. Kyles received her undergraduate degree in education from Lincoln University in Jefferson City and a Master’s of Arts in Education from Southeast Missouri State University.
She moved to the St. Louis area in the mid-1970s, where she would remain for the rest of her life.
In addition to raising her two children, Ms. Kyles was an educator who spent more than 30 years in the field before retiring as a highly regarded reading specialist.

Last October, her children Cedric and Sharita Kyles presented the Cedric and Friends Gala along with SSM to benefit the Rosetta Boyce Kyles Women’s Pavilion that will be housed at SSM St. Mary’s Health Center.
Ms. Kyles was diagnosed with cancer in 2009 and received treatment from SSM St. Mary’s. As part of the festivities she spoke of being especially connected to the mission of the hospital, which states “Through our exceptional healthcare services, we reveal the healing presence of God.”
Her son Cedric spoke of the exceptional healthcare she received when speaking with The American about the intention behind his inaugural gala featuring himself and Grammy Award winning soul singer and actress Jill Scott.

“When you have someone come into the Rosetta Boyce Kyles Center, not only are they going to get exceptional healthcare, but it’s going to be with the kind of spirit that is an extension of your family,” Cedric said.
She is survived by her two children, five grandchildren as well as a host of family and friends.
